Hadith On Cats

My father narrated to me from my grandfather that Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: There is no harm if a cat is kept in the house, whether it is a lion or a cow.
Sunan Abi Dawud 5071

A hadith is a saying or an act attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). One of the most famous hadith on cats comes from the Prophet Muhammad himself: “A man saw a cat eating from his bowl and he took it and put it away. The Prophet said: ‘You have deprived it of its food; You should have fed it, as you fed yourself.’” This hadith has been interpreted to mean that Muslims should take care of cats by providing them with food and shelter.

As cats are beloved animals in Islam, this hadith is often seen as an example of how Muslims should treat all creatures, not just cats. It emphasizes the importance of kindness and compassion for all living beings. This hadith is also seen as a reminder to be generous and to share what we have with others. It encourages us to be mindful of the needs of others and to show mercy and compassion to those who are less fortunate than ourselves. In addition, it serves as a reminder that all creatures, large and small, deserve to be treated with respect and kindness.
